L Vs Light Yagami :The Greatest minds of the Anime/Manga World
If you are a fan of Anime or you like Manga, then you have probably heard about the two masterminds of Death Note. The show basically revolves around a cat and mouse chase between the two characters taking various turns and turning into a game of intellect,manipulation and planning.
Light Yagami is the main character,who is a high school student and almost become a God by the name of 'KIRA' and dreams of cleansing the world.He is hunted down mainly by 'L' or "L Lawliet" who is a damn good detective.If you liked the show then you probably have wondered about the fact that, who was the best?
Well,I am here to answer the question and compare among the two of them.
Looks:
Light is like your average high school student.He is at the top of his class.He keeps his personality well checked and especially after becoming Kira,he had to keep up his appearances.On the other hand,L is very different then him.He does not look "neat" but,he still pulls his looks and defines his own style.From the way he dresses to the way he sits,everything is to his own accord.L does not care for what other people might think of him and do whatever he feels like doing.
If you really have to look at them and decide then I think Light wins(clearly).The reason is that Light has to hide his true face(evil) from others and therefore,focuses more on his looks.His looks are more better because,well,he wears a suit or atleast a tie while,L wears a baggy pant an a loose shirt..Also, L has a rather sleepy face.His clothes are almost the same everywhere which begs the question:'Does he ever takes a shower or how many of the same set of clothes does he have?
Physical Strength:
Although,this does not seem to be a more pressing issue but,their physical strength matters too.L does not seem to have a lot of strength but,that is not the case.Where he looks sleepy,he is athletic at the same time.When they play tennis,it can be seen that L is good at it however,Light had been a champion and wins the match.But,that was more of a mind game too.
Another instance, when they are bound together and get into a fight.They both threw some pretty good blows at each other and the fight was declared as a draw.This means that they both have the same physical strength despite of L's obvious weak looks.
Intellect:
The most important aspect of all.Intellectually,some may argue that Light is more intelligent while on the same time,some may say the opposite.I am going to answer it here.
In the beginning,Light plans everything to keep his books hidden and that is when it strike to a person that this show is at another level.Light shows extreme level of brainpower(sage).That is only upto the point where L is introduced as the greatest detective of the world and narrows the list of suspects to Japan, immediately.He then goes on to show amazing feats of his wisdom while reaching to such conclusions that leaves Light looking a little smaller to him.
However,one also has to remember that Light still managed to pull off his amazing plans to deceive L and everyone else.Also,if you think that L was more intelligent then Light because he reached to such conclusions and got to Light in not a very long time then,you are wrong.See the thing was that Light definitely had an advantage over L by knowing everything about Death Note and all but still,when Light forfeits his ownership,he reaches to the same conclusions with L in same time(if not early).This shows that if the situations were opposite,Light would have easily reached to the same conclusions as L.They also took the test and topped that out.
However,one also has to remember that Light still managed to pull off his amazing plans to deceive L and everyone else.Also,if you think that L was more intelligent then Light because he reached to such conclusions and got to Light in not a very long time then,you are wrong.See the thing was that Light definitely had an advantage over L by knowing everything about Death Note and all but still,when Light forfeits his ownership,he reaches to the same conclusions with L in same time(if not early).This shows that if the situations were opposite,Light would have easily reached to the same conclusions as L.They also took the test and topped that out.
This only proves that both of them have same level of Intellect. There really is no point in arguing otherwise.
Personality:
Both of them are intelligent?No doubt.But,how would you think of them if you were to spend time in their company?
I will start with Light Yagami.He is a high school student and is brought up a respectable family.Despite the fact that he thinks of many other things(like killing people),he still 'pretends' to be normal.He has good manners and a good personality too.But,keep in mind that given the chance,he would not hesitate to get you killed.He would lie straight to your face.
Now L.Well,he is also at the same age of Light Yagami.He however,does not keep up the appearances.He does not go into sweet talking.He will give you everything straight to your face.I mean,if you were terminally ill,he would say "You are going to die!".Also,L is weird to sit with.Just imagine the person next to you sitting like him.
I would not take either one's side because,that would depend on you guys.
Motives:
L's motives are pretty clear.He calls himself 'Justice'.He wants to stop Light also known as 'Kira'.He sees all the killings and wants to end the terror of Kira by apprehending the culprit.Seems about right!
Light Yagami's motives are complicated (easily).He may seem bad but,that is not nearly the whole story.He is actually very smart and the world is too easy for him.It is broken because of the corrupt people.He is bored and thus,wants to change it in his spare time.He wants to kill just the bad people with the Death Note but,after a while,he kills every one who is a threat to his goal.
Conclusion:
Light wins!!!The reasons for that are more than just one.
Firstly,L dies because Light planned it so.He beats L right there and then.But,if you guys are wondering about the advantages that Light may have had over L and think that the result should have been otherwise the,know this.L may be catching upto Light pretty fast but,you have to remember that Light does not only covers his tracks brilliantly but,he is far more cunning and manipulative then L.He twists people and gets them to do whatever he wants them to do.He is a true Psychopath(if you say so!!).
Also,Light is not a full time killer.His attention is divided as he gives some of his time to "study" to stay ahead of his class.He solves equations with one hand and write names in Death Note with other.This thing was perhaps the most awesome about him.Also,Light was defeated because they had to make him looks bad.So,at the end,the writer turned him desperate and tried to just sum up everything(boo-hoo).
